Defining Luxury Hospitality in Mexico

Where the Baja desert landscape meets the Sea of Cortez, Amanvari captures the convergence of endless sunshine, expansive white sand beaches, and a rare estuary oasis. The resort unfolds in a series of open-air pavilions and intimate courtyards, each framed by floor-to-ceiling glass walls that dissolve the boundary between interior refuge and the natural world beyond. A carefully orchestrated landscape creates moments of complete seclusion beneath azure skies while revealing breathtaking vistas of the Sierra de Laguna mountains. Upon arrival, guests leave their vehicles behind, embracing the unhurried rhythm of smaller-scale pathways designed for contemplation and discovery. Each villa rises gracefully from its surrounding terrain, positioned to command uninterrupted views across the Sea of Cortés.

Weaving Together International Expertise

The architectural vision, bold yet refined structural elements emerging from the landscape and wrapped in rich tropical wood and expansive glass, remained suspended in concept until I assumed the role of Design Director in 2021. Realizing this vision demanded assembling a world-class team capable of honoring the original design intent while shepherding it through to completion. We engaged a masterplanner and landscape architect to revive the estuary oasis and sculpt the Baja dunescape, creating opportunities for hillside residences with sweeping ocean views beyond the beachfront. A specialized lighting designer was brought in to orchestrate dramatic evening atmospheres while preserving the crystalline night sky. Executive architects translated the design language for local artisans and craftspeople. The result: a collaborative effort spanning four continents and six time zones, each contributor bringing deep expertise in creating exceptional spaces that define luxury.

Transforming a Dynamic Landscape into an Enduring Destination

Developing along an active waterfront at the base of a seasonal arroyo presented both extraordinary opportunity and formidable challenge. The established estuary offered natural beauty, while the dynamic hydrology demanded extensive groundwork to create a foundation worthy of this landmark destination. We first stabilized and secured the land itself, establishing a resilient base capable of supporting structures designed for generations. Next came the engineering and operational infrastructure required to sustain world-class service standards. Systems remain invisible yet function flawlessly to anticipate every guest need without intrusion. As Aman's inaugural resort under new leadership and their first project in Mexico, Amanvari sets a new standard for how thoughtful intervention can work in concert with an untamed landscape.

Expressing Place Through Local Craftsmanship

True sense of place extends far beyond architecture and landscape, resonating through every object a guest encounters. We commissioned local artisans to create custom furnishings and guest amenities that echo the region's rich craft traditions. Hand-thrown ceramics for dining service, each piece subtly irregular in the way only human hands can achieve. Textiles woven with techniques passed down through generations, their natural fibers and organic dyes reflecting the desert palette outside each window. These aren't decorative gestures, they're intentional choices that allow guests to experience Mexican craftsmanship in intimate, tactile moments throughout their stay. Every coffee cup, every throw blanket, every chair becomes a quiet ambassador for the culture and creativity that defines this place.
